A Skiscape by Gnomama

Before I was a Gnomama, I was and will always be a Mountain mama. No matter the weather, I live for escapes to the mountains. I may be a fair-weather skier, but even on rotten cold days, I'm always thankful for the winter wonder the slopes bring. No picture or illustration can truly capture the breathtaking beauty of Colorado's crisp, frosted peaks, but it's always fun to try!

I've created a couple of illustrated skiscapes over the years, and there are so many more I want to do! Unfortunately, winter is nearly over, and my paper and pen keep pointing to spring, but I'll never forget my dreams of the winter wonder and the many other skyscapes to come.

A story in the making

Welcome to Gnomama! I'm Jess Losier, and I’m an illustrator from Denver, Colorado, but around here, you can call me Gnomama, and this is my little gnome world. My pursuit as happiness started when I grabbed a pen and paper and drew a gnome on a whim. There was no logic, but I’m pretty sure I tapped into some sort of magic—every time I took out my pen, another little gnome story would begin.

Wanting to give these little creatures a world of their own, I pondered, "These gnomes need a home, a place to roam, and something to occupy their dome!" And that's how my little gnome world began. With my trusty pen and an imagination that knows no end, I set out to craft stories and weave tales for these mysterious beings, creating my own little gnome world.

But my vision as Gnomama extends beyond just creating gnomes; I'm also on a mission to help others find their own gnome, too. Through my creative adventures, I aim to inspire fellow dreamers to embark on their artistic journeys, unveiling the unreal worlds within them. It's all part of 'Gnomama and the Art of Gnomemaking,' a quest to nurture creativity and embrace the little gnome from within.

When I'm not busy conjuring gnomes and weaving tales of wonder, you'll likely find me making home, going on the roam, and exploring the unknown with my husband, kids, and loyal four-legged friends. I'm more than just an illustrator and writer; I am a gnomemaker on a lifelong mission to spread joy and wonder. So, if you're searching for a sprinkle of fun and a spark of magic, you've found the right place.

Welcome to Gnomama, your little gnome guide to goodness.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

One day long ago, when my kids were really little, I got down on my knees next to my daughter and son, and I lay a large piece of white paper on the big table in front of us, then spread out a beautiful array of brand new markers and pens. It was an activity meant to keep the kids happy and distracted while I read or did some other adult thing, but as I pulled out that big white paper, I got distracted as I felt this ridiculous attraction to that ample open space.

I told the kids they may begin, but they just stared at the paper and pens. For some weird reason, I did not want to be the one to start. I wanted them to take the lead, but they just sat there, frozen, unwilling to remove a cap from the pen.

So, I took a deep breath, picked up a pen, and dove in. And that’s when I felt this bizarre little spark in my heart. A moment, I believe, is when a door opened.

Not thinking, not believing this opening was for me, I kept encouraging my kids to draw instead, but the sensation wouldn’t leave my head, so I kept going, letting my pen do the drawing.

Then out of nowhere, everything around me disappeared except for a little gnome lady who magically appeared in front of me, barely as tall as my knee.

She said, “Hi, I’m Sagely, and this is where our story begins.”

Then, SNAP, I was back in my sunroom, kneeling next to my kids, my little light, and my olive tree. I smiled and took a deep breath, grateful to have my home and beautiful creatures around me. But when I glanced at the paper in front of me, it was a drawing of the little gnome lady.

That little drawing was a life-changing discovery that pointed me to my life’s purpose, unexpected direction, and a story of my own creation. Ever since that day, I have drawn a little more to uncover her story. Sagely Creations is my incredible art adventure and creative journey through illustrations and drawings of a little gnome world.

Becoming an artist seemed like a complete impossibility to me before I met that little gnome lady named Sagely. She has shown me a world of infinite possibilities. My mission at Sagely Creations is to help others find their own gnome.

The images you see here are my journey through her story and my own as we work together to conquer the unknown.
